Oracle has announced its new container engine for Kubernetes, as well as open standards to cover its serverless cloud model.

The multinational computer technology corporations incentive is to make it easier to manage infrastructure-related issues in large organisations, specifically security, storage and networking.

Oracle wrote in a blog post: “To address these top challenges facing Kubernetes users today, Oracle Container Engine for Kubernetes has integrated tightly with the best-in-class governance, security, networking, and scale of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).”

Meanwhile, Oracle’s FN Project is working on new open standards with the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNF) which aims to standardise ways of describing event data.

DigitalOcean Kubernetes is also another one of its products designed to help to deploy and manage containerised workloads in the cloud.

Survey says global government cloud market will reach US$49billion by 2023 https://devopsnews.online/report-says-global-government-cloud-market-will-reach-us49billion-2023/ Tue, 27 Mar 2018 13:41:59 +0000 http://www.devopsonline.co.uk/?p=12184 A recent survey says the global government cloud market is expected to reach US$49.2billion by 2023

The post Survey says global government cloud market will reach US$49billion by 2023 appeared first on DevOps Online North America.

]]>
According to a recent survey, the global government cloud market is expected to reach US$49.2billion by 2023.

The market research report says the cloud market is to grow rapidly because of the increased reduction in total cost of ownership (TCO) and rise in government inclination towards digital transformation.

The government cloud market is categorised into product and service, where the market for products is estimated to generate higher revenue for government cloud, due to its high adoption owing to the increased awareness of its benefits.

However, during the forecast period, the market for services is expected to exhibit faster growth. This can be attributed to the fact that the quality and delivery time of services are controlled by certain predefined service level agreements (SLA), which makes processes more efficient and transparent.

Data losses in government agencies

The government cloud products are further categorised into storage, disaster recovery, identity access management (IAM), risk compliance management (RCM), and others.

During the forecast period, disaster recovery solution is projected to witness the highest growth in the global government cloud market, with CAGR of 15.7%.

This growth can be attributed to the mounting demand for applying the backup plans offered by disaster recovery, to prevent transaction and data losses in government agencies. Also, government agencies are increasing their focus on IAM, due to the rising need for top-notch cloud-based authentication procedures.

North America is estimated to contribute the highest revenue, accounting for nearly 34% to the global government cloud market in 2017 and is expected to generate a revenue of more than $15,000 million by 2023, driven by the high demand and huge investments in cloud-based solutions from government agencies.

Growing pace of technology

With the growing pace of technology, ICT executives in the government sector have started looking for sophisticated network solutions that enable them to react quickly, smoothly, and efficiently, to public concerns and also at the same time keep growing pressures to the minimum.

Government cloud, helping such executives in adapting to changes with less troublesome and expense, is one of the major driving the government cloud market. The improved agility and adaptability through the adoption of cloud by government agencies include further motivating factors such as virtualised resources, elastic services, faster deployment, and increased flexibility.

Some of the key players operating in the government cloud market are Google, IBM, Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle, Salesforce, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, VMware and Intel Corporation.

Geographically, North America has been the largest eDiscovery market, accounting for more than 65% of the global revenue in 2016, whereas the sales in Asia-Pacific are expected to witness the fastest growth, during the forecast period.

Technological advancements

Various factors that have influenced the eDiscovery market in North America in the recent past include the change in policies after the election of Donald Trump as the President, high-paced technological advancements, and various other policy changes related to antitrust law.

The growth in the Asia-Pacific market will be led by factors such as the surge in digitalisation within the legal sector, advancement in new data analytics and retrieving technologies by regional players, and the growth in investment in eDiscovery solutions.

Cloud SCM market has been growing at the highest pace in Asia-Pacific on account of surging industrialization in the region, and the growing adoption of automation among enterprises.

Growing e-commerce market coupled with increasing focus on reducing the ownership cost is the other factors driving the cloud SCM market in the region. The regional governments have also been supporting the industrial growth, which is being translated into the growth of cloud SCM market in the region.

With mobile data consumption surpassing usage of the USA and China in 2017, mobile service providers in India are working to enhance their network infrastructure to manage and support the growth surge and ensure good quality of customer experience.

Bharti Airtel (India’s largest telecommunications services provider) and Cisco have joined forces to improve customer experience by taking their SON collaboration to the next level.

SON is now carrying out optimisation based on customer experience and predictive analytics instead of the traditional approach to responding to network degradations.

‘Self-healing applications’

SON self-healing applications have been “enriched” by taking proactive actions in near real-time, using predictive machine learning and interworking of SON with NOC tools, PM analytics and customer experience analytics platforms.

Abhay Savargaonkar, director at Bharti Airtel, commented: We are now taking SON to the next level by integrating it with other data sources and machine learning capabilities.

“This is a path breaking step to put more intelligence in the network, enabling us to enhance real-time experience of our consumers.”

UKCloud accelerates cloud services via Microsoft and Cisco https://devopsnews.online/ukcloud-accelerates-cloud-services-via-microsoft-cisco/ Wed, 14 Feb 2018 14:33:23 +0000 http://www.devopsonline.co.uk/?p=11860 UKCloud today announces that it's working with Microsoft and Cisco to accelerate the adoption of cloud services across the UK public sector

UKCloud today announced that it’s working with Microsoft and Cisco to accelerate the adoption of cloud services across the UK public sector.

Microsoft’s Azure Stack hybrid cloud offering will combine with UKCloud with its own accredited, government-grade platform powered by Cisco’s “world-class integrated infrastructure” as part of the agreement to create new hybrid opportunities for the UK public sector.

‘Advocate of the cloud’

Joanna Smith, CIO at the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, commented: “As a big advocate of cloud, I have always appreciated the role that it has played in helping us to modernise our infrastructure, implement new clinical technology and enhance our overall flexibility and productivity.

“In many ways we have been a few steps ahead of other organisations, many of which are still struggling with complex legacy-based technology estates and still retain concerns about the move to the cloud.

“This collaboration between Microsoft and UKCloud should help dispel many of their concerns – with the enhanced assurance, UK data sovereignty and direct connection to government networks, like N3 and HSCN, that it offers.”

‘Maximising developer productivity’

Microsoft’s strategy of consistency between Azure and Azure Stack will enable public sector organisations in the UK to build and deploy applications using exactly the same APIs, DevOps tools and portal, thereby maximising developer productivity.

Michael Wignall, national technology officer at Microsoft UK, continued: “The UK Government is a digital leader, particularly with its original ‘cloud first’ and now ‘cloud native’ policies.

“As one of the country’s leading technology providers, we see it as our responsibility to help meet and encourage these new initiatives and have invested locally to ensure we are up to the task.”
