To make Europe the future mobile network global leader, the European Union (EU) has established a common baseline for 5G standards

In a bid for the EU to become the future mobile networking technology, the republic of San Marino has announced its plans, allowing 30,000 residents to enjoy more reliable internet through 5G by the beginning of next year.

Telecom Italia Mobile has agreed to support San Marino’s government ideas by combining collective resources on potential 5G mobile networks across the EU, and signing a ministerial declaration to join member states.

‘Using 5G networks to communicate in the future’

Urve Palo, Estonian Minister for entrepreneurship and IT said to a Computer Weekly: “Everybody and everything will be using 5G networks to communicate in the future, and I am very glad that we managed to sign the declaration.

“This indicates that all member states are thinking about the future and are willing to boost connectivity and Europe’s digital competitiveness to the next level. 5G will allow faster internet connections across Europe and make it possible to develop new technologies, such as connected cars, innovative industrial machines and e-health initiatives.”

The declaration was also signed by Norway and the UK.

According to Computer Weekly, young people are worried that robots will have better skills than them when leaving education.

The arrival of artificial intelligence (AI) will lead to fewer job, said 76% of young people who are worried that robots skills will stand out more because of lack of work experience at a young age.

Supporting young people, the Young Enterprise Charity and Financial Education polled 200 young business-minded individuals for its report ‘Robot revolution: The impact of artificial intelligence on entrepreneurs and job prospects.’

Robots forcing students to learn new skills

The report findings found that 59% of participants are worried about not finding a job that a robot could do; with 33% believing that robots with problem solving and team working skills will force students to learn new skills before leaving education.

“The rise of the robots will have a devastating impact on job prospects for young people who have not been equipped with basic work skills,” said Michael Mercieca, CEO at Young Enterprise.

“Its time to wake up and recognise education must extend beyond academia and properly prepare the next generation for the world of work with skills like communication, teamwork and creativity,” he added.

Another survey that differently consisted of 111,362 participants and was created by www.gov.uk similarly showed that more than 10% of workers believe that 20% of daily tasks could be taken over by robots.

In preparation for the ‘fourth industrial revolution’, Samsung SDI will boost technological developments for next-generation materials, according to Samsung’s CEO, Jun Young-Hyun.

Hgun previously emphasised technology developments that will “lead” the global battery market at the company’s 47th anniversary ceremony.

According to the Korea Herald, Samsung’s battery supplier is trying to make a positive turnaround this year, after losing US$831 million last year because of the Galaxy Note 7 explosion fallout and slow market demand.

Hyun announced four major tasks at the recent ceremony, in hope for a positive turnaround building a product platform, securing safety, next-generation material development and seeking innovation in its manufacturing systems: “We will enhance our technologies that will be second to none,” he added.

OneWeb satellite and European aerospace giant Airbus have started producing a satellite constellation, hoping to deliver broadband links from orbit worldwide.

The network will accommodate at least 600 spacecrafts, which could encompass more than 2,000 in the future.

The projects main aim is for every school to have a connection, and to build a large constellation, which will require change in manufacturing satellites.

OneWeb will be focusing on high volume and low cost, although according to the BBC, it can take Europe’s biggest space company hundreds of millions of dollars and many months to build the specialist platform.

Despite this, there is concern that a proliferation of multi-satellite networks could lead to a cascade and collisions and a lot of junk.

“Here, we’ve had to go other ways, to be really commercial and calculating according to the target cost because that is very decisive in the whole business case for OneWeb,” said the Boss of Airbus, Tom Enders.

“The most obvious difference you notice between these new lines and the conventional satellite cleanroom is the trolley robot, which moves the developing satellites between the various work stations. But the ‘revolution’ here goes far beyond automation; it requires a whole chain of suppliers and their components to scale their work to a different game plan,” he added.

The first 10 satellites to come off the Toulouse assembly line have a deadline to launch in April next year.
