Thanks to last year’s success, The DevOps Industry Awards 2018 is hitting the heart of London for the second year running on the 16 October 2018.

Entries are officially open, so it’s time to showcase hard work by entering your outstanding digital transformation DevOps projects, teams, or individuals; without the worry of size, location, budget or sector.

‘The breeding of success’

Last year tremendous efforts from the likes of Barclays, Banco Santander, Infosys, and Accenture was recognised by the Judging Panel from Bank of America, ITV, HSBC and Mumsnet.

All entries were judged anonymously (the same as this year) with firms and/or individual names, products, or references to any identifiable solution and/or service being hidden before being distributed to the judges.

With winning an award comes brand awareness, self-belief, the breeding of success, the attraction of fresh and bright talent, staff morale, and high levels of exposure and acclaim for individuals, teams, and firms.

‘Highly desirable awards’

“The DevOps Industry Awards are an epitome to celebrate excellence and recognises the hard work and perseverance for professionals to provide business benefits using DevOps,” commented DevOps Industry Award 2017 Judge, Sudeep Chatterjee, Bank of America.

This glittering awards gala is the perfect way to end the year by toasting to triumph with other tech-savvy individuals while enhancing professionalism.

Keith Watson from ADP also noted that it’s a “very enjoyable awards process and ceremony”.

Tricentis announced it added more than 130 global enterprise customers in 2017, including First Data, Accenture, Whole Foods, Commerzbank, and Toyota.

Tricentis closed 2017 with an 85% increase in new license bookings over the previous year, and a customer base that now tops 600 brands recognised worldwide.

This momentum helped vault Tricentis to the leader position in the latest software test automation reports from Gartner, Forrester, and IDC.

  • Gartner 2017 Magic Quadrant for Software Test Automation
  • Forrester Wave: Modern Application Functional Test Automation Tools
  • IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Enterprise Automated Software Quality 2017-2018 Vendor Assessment

“Today, the concept of continuous testing has been escalated to a C-level discussion,” said Sandeep Johri, CEO of Tricentis.

“As businesses expect software to be released at an unprecedented rate, it became evident that software testing was the primary barrier to success for DevOps and digital transformation initiatives.”

To help the United Nations (UN) store digital legal identification for refugees who have no licensed documents, technology companies Accenture and Microsoft have created a digital ID, which runs on blockchain.

Citizens will be able to access personal details from any location because the prototype shows commercial and public records, which is essential for a range of financial, health and education services.

Accenture is building an existing biometrics identity management platform on the system soon, which will be tested with aid agencies.

According to the BBC, 1.1 billion people worldwide have no valid documentation, including people who have been displaced from their original homes.

‘Unique identifier stamp’

The blockchain ID will create a unique identifier ‘stamp’, between the refugee and server data, to confirm confirmation for every service received.

“For someone who has nothing, who is starting over, this is a means by which they can start over and not lose their identity again. It’s a much richer set of identity information than we have today,” said Accenture’s Managing Director, David Treat.

“We all have challenges with identity because it is fragmented and it is owned by the authorities and not by us. If you count the number of logins you have, there are a lot, and you don’t own a lot of your information, someone else does. This is the basis by which identity can be stolen or corrupted,” he added.

The UN’s ideology is for everyone to have legal digital identities by 2030.

According to a recent study, only 18% of European businesses surveyed have fully implemented a digital testing strategy.

Pierre Audoin Consultants (PAC)’s ‘Digital Testing in Europe – Strategies, Challenges & Measuring Success,’ research looks at how organisations are ensuring that the testing and quality assurance (QA) function is able to support the digital agenda of the business.

This is often led by departments such as sales and marketing, who circumvent the CIO and undertake their own development projects, while using emerging tools and platforms.

Developing and implementing digital testing strategies

The study, supported by Accenture, HP, TestPlant, Applause and Worksoft, found that 26% of organisations in the region have formulated a digital testing strategy but have not yet implemented it. A further 35% plan to develop a digital testing strategy in the next year.

The study found that the biggest obstacle in implementing digital testing strategies is in taking a consistent approach to testing across multiple channels of engagement, an issue cited by almost half of all participants. The second biggest issue is that of integrating digital into legacy systems, which was regarded as a ‘primary’ challenge by 39% of participants.

Other key findings

More than 60% of businesses use the same team to test both digital projects and existing applications.

Nearly 23% of companies currently allocate more than 60% of their testing budgets to new development in 2015, but this will increase to a level of 27% in 2017. The majority of companies use an array of tools (in-house, packaged, open source) and approaches (virtualisation, in-production testing) as part of their digital testing strategies.

Major Challenges for Digital Testing

Major Challenges for Digital Testing

There is growing interest in crowd sourced testing models. 25% of European businesses already use them, with an additional 20% planning to use them in the next two years.

European organisations need to rethink their approach to testing

Nick Mayes, Principal Analyst at PAC, said: “The digital agenda is having a profound impact on the testing strategies of many European organisations. It is moving testing closer to the business, driving them to leverage different tools, methodologies and external partners, and it is forcing businesses to change at greater speed.”

The European Picture

The European Picture

“The proliferation of digital technologies in today’s high-velocity, software-driven business world is pushing every company to rethink and reinvent its approach to testing,” said Matthias Rasking, Europe, Africa and Latin America Testing Lead for Accenture. “We collaborated with PAC on this study to highlight the need for companies to develop a comprehensive digital testing strategy in support of their business strategy. The ability to roll out business capabilities continuously, create a seamless customer experience and protect the brand will be the difference between companies that can evolve and ones that stagnate.”

Methodology

PAC interviewed senior IT and testing executives at 200 large businesses in Europe, as part of the study.
