{"id":9387,"date":"2017-07-05T16:00:55","date_gmt":"2017-07-05T15:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.devopsonline.co.uk\/?p=9387"},"modified":"2017-07-07T15:08:30","modified_gmt":"2017-07-07T14:08:30","slug":"microsofts-cloud-cut-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devopsnews.online\/microsofts-cloud-cut-out\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft\u2019s potential \u2018cloud cut-out\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report states that Microsoft has reorganised its global sales force to focus on selling cloud services rather than standalone pieces of software.<\/p>\n<p>WSJ reported that since CEO Steve Ballmer resigned and Satya Nadella took his place in 2014, she has performed a series of structural changes within the company, which could lead to thousands of jobs to be cut as a result of the \u2018sales shuffle\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Since Nadella took control, the company has focused on selling software subscriptions to businesses, as well as building its Azure cloud-computing platform.<\/p>\n<h2>Growing cloud division<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2017\/7\/3\/15917040\/microsoft-sales-reorganization-azure-cloud-services-layoffs \" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Verge<\/a> noted that for Windows and Office, this is \u2018part of a steady shift away from one-time software licenses\u2019; also stating that Microsoft is still catching up against Amazon, trying to grow cloud division and stave off competition from Google.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft says it will not focus on small to medium sized businesses and big enterprise customers: \u201cSales reorganisation is designed to align the right resources for the right customer at the right time,\u201d said Microsoft\u2019s Executive Vice President of Worldwide Commercial Business, Judson Althoff.<\/p>\n<p>WSJ stated that layoffs will likely occur in offices around the globe.<\/p>\n<p>Written by Leah Alger<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.devopsonline.co.uk\">Read more from DevOps Online<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DevOpsOnline\">Follow us on Twitter<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report states that Microsoft has reorganised its global sales force to focus on selling cloud services rather than standalone pieces of software.
