{"id":9306,"date":"2017-07-03T09:07:19","date_gmt":"2017-07-03T08:07:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.devopsonline.co.uk\/?p=9306"},"modified":"2018-12-03T12:21:12","modified_gmt":"2018-12-03T11:21:12","slug":"las-vegas-enforces-iot-safer-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devopsnews.online\/las-vegas-enforces-iot-safer-city\/","title":{"rendered":"Las Vegas enforces IoT for a safer city"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Las Vegas\u2019s Chief Innovation Officer, Michael Sherwood, revealed to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.computerweekly.com\/news\/450421635\/How-Vegas-is-using-IoT-and-Cisco-to-improve-the-city-experience\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Computer Weekly<\/a> how Vegas is enforcing the internet of things (IoT) to work besides American multinational technology conglomerate, Cisco, to help reduce duplicate services.<\/p>\n<p>With 42 million tourists visiting Vegas each year, whilst being a home of 650,000 citizens, Sherwood hopes to \u201cbuild a community to make life better for our citizens\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Cisco\u2019s digital platform called Smart+Connected has been designed to help tourism and residents find their way around and achieve \u2018simple tasks\u2019, by erasing any complications regarding sensors delivering different data to separate systems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a very large city as far as tourism goes and we have residents as well. It is important that we provide seamless experiences for them,\u201d said Sherwood.<\/p>\n<h2>Building technology ecosystems<\/h2>\n<p>In hope to build a safer city, Sherwood is hoping to act upon and analyse data faults by using IoT to guide people to different places safely, which includes checking the amount of vehicles travelling through lightening systems, checking the quantity of people walking and driving, and by studying \u2018alternative routes\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s all about experience. What we\u2019re trying to do is build a technology ecosystem to help that, and data is a huge part. Now, with this intelligence architecture, we can see how people use the streets,\u201d announced Sherwood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCisco is giving us that alarm system that says something is out of whack, whether that\u2019s traffic back flow or whether there\u2019s a backpack left behind.
