It was recently announced that Google Cloud will be collaborating with Singapore’s national artificial intelligence (AI) program in order to get more people interested in machine learning (ML) and AI.

Indeed, with this partnership, aspiring AI engineers will have the opportunity to do two months of intensive training as well as get hands-on experience in real-world projects. The projects include solving problems for businesses through AI and how to support the growth of local AI start-ups.

Moreover, this collaboration will allow companies to use Google’s AI and machine learning services so as to develop products with half of the cost co-funded by AI Singapore. The partnership with Google is also reported to not be exclusive, as some projects in the 100 Experiments initiative run on Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

This Google partnership is seen as a“natural extension of the work that AI Singapore is doing with cloud providers and should attract more companies to the 100 Experiments program as well as the Google Cloud Platform.

It was recently reported that the number of data breach alerts received by Singapore’s data protection watchdog had tripled during the February-March period.

Indeed, the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) stated that the firms targeted were mostly in the finance, retail, and manufacturing sectors. Security experts have then found out that the data compromised included a number of personal information such as names, e-mail addresses, financial details, and postal addresses.

Moreover, they reported that the data could be used to take over victims’ online accounts and spread malware or transfer money. This important increase of the past two months is attributed to the new data breach notification requirement as well as the rise in cybersecurity threats.

A recent report from Risk Based Security also revealed that it recorded at least three data breaches in the first quarter for Singapore, which is a third of nine cases it logged for Singapore for the whole of last year.

Hence, organizations in Singapore are now obligated to report breaches that could lead to dangerous outcomes, such as financial or physical harm, or if it affects the data of more than 500 people.

Nokia is opening a cloud collaboration hub in Singapore to strengthen its cloud and data centre services.

Last month, another hub opened in Irving, Texas, to be followed by one in Reading, UK.

The hubs are execution centres, providing multivendor cloud services with strategy and design, execution and delivery, as well as DevOps based cloud development and delivery.

The Cloud Collaboration Hub is an evolution of the Cloud Design Center, opened in 2016 in the UK, which has already been delivering multivendor cloud solutions to operators globally.

Nokia cloud solutions also cover integration to virtual network function (VNF), IT applications and hybrid cloud solutions.

Zerostack today announced it will be demonstrating its Intelligent Cloud Platform at Cloud Expo Asia.

The SaaS platform that provides cloud administration with a self-service portal and a suite of services will be participating in Structure Research’s VIP Event as part of the Expo.

Because of its partner ecosystem in Singapore, the company is seeing “strong traction” in South Asia.

In a recent Frost & Sullivan report, ZeroStack’s ease of deployment, security features, SaaS portal, and self-healing capabilities are cited as “standouts” against “competitive offerings”.

M5 Technologies and Alliance Partner will also be participating at the event, to support its regional channel programme.

Veritas study: Organisations believe they are GDPR compliant https://devopsnews.online/veritas-study-organisations-believe-gdpr-compliant/ Tue, 25 Jul 2017 13:58:11 +0000 http://www.devopsonline.co.uk/?p=9628 Veritas found that organisations across the globe ‘mistakenly’ believe they comply with the upcoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Veritas found that organisations across the globe ‘mistakenly’ believe they comply with the upcoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The multi-cloud data management company’s report, The Veritas 2017 GDPR, found that 31% of survey respondents believe that their enterprise conforms to the legislation’s key requirements, although when questioned about GDPR provisions, the majority said they are unlikely to be in compliance; with 2% revealing a distinct misunderstanding over regulation readiness.

The findings showed that 61% of respondents think it’s difficult for their organisation to identify and report a personal data breach within 72 hours of awareness, and 48% said they are compliant without full visibility over data loss incidents; although organisations that don’t report the theft or loss of personal data is breaking key requirements.

‘Avoiding reputational damage and financial loss’

Jason Tooley, Vice President at Veritas, said: “Organisations who actively focus on development of a culture of data confidence will have a clear business advantage. Customer and supplier confidence in the use of data is critical to improved customer engagement, greater personalisation and ultimately service quality. This allows organisations to turn GDPR from being a regulatory challenge to being a business differentiator.”

Organisations struggle to control former employee data access and to ensure that reputational damage and financial loss is avoided, therefore former employees corporate data should be deleted to help stem malicious activity, although the report highlights that 50% of former employees are still able to access internal data.

‘Ensuring data compliance in the cloud’

“The complexity created through the management of data across multiple cloud and on-premise environments is accentuating the challenge and will inhibit an organisation’s ability to remain compliant in the face of the GDPR articles. For every organisation that’s currently struggling to make sense of the GDPR’s provisions, it should immediately seek an advisory service to audit its levels of preparedness and create a smooth and accelerated path towards total compliance,” added Tooley.

13% of survey respondents concluded that they do not have the capability to analyse and search personal data to uncover explicit and implicit references to an individual; with 49% believing that companies that comply with GDPR consider it the sole responsibility of the cloud service provider, ensuring data compliance in the cloud.

900 businesses across the US, the UK, France, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Japan and the Republic of Korea were interviewed for the report in February and March 2017.
