The survey found that 26% of enterprises surveyed would spend more than US$6million a year on the public cloud.

Another 26% respondents revealed that they have spent between US$1.2million and US$6million a year on the cloud, with 17% of respondents planning to increase cloud spending from 50% to 100%.

It appears optimising the cloud is a top initiative for these survey respondents, with 58% saying it’s the top of their bucket list; a 53% increase since last year’s report.

Docker, Kubernetes and the cloud

Furthermore, 57% of enterprises already have a central cloud team or center of excellence with another 24% planning to have one.

Not forgetting Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud container services are growing rapidly: Overall Docker adoption increased to 49% from 35% last year (a growth rate of 40%).

Despite this, Kubernetes grew even faster, almost doubling to reach 27% in adoption.

AWS’ container services followed, reaching 44% adoption (a growth rate of 26% from 2017).

The RightScale State of the Cloud Survey was conducted by 997 technology professionals at large and small enterprises across a broad cross-section of industries.
