According to Engadget, HTC has partnered with Bejing Cyber Cloud and Dalian Television to test the first cloud VR service in Dalian, China.

The headset will be connected by a 60Mbps broadband connection, providing access to VR content from Viveport, HTC’s VR platform.

In a bid to improve overall user experience, sorting VR content in the cloud means consumers will no longer need to wait for downloads or use PCs.

The new system addresses VR headset adoption, although high-end VR devices like the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift still need to be powered by a compatible PC.

BT wants to ensure that all British homes have access to internet speeds of at least 10 megabits per second through investing £600million.

BT’s ambition is to offer coverage of at least 10 megabits per second to 99% of homes and businesses in Britain by 2020.

The telecommunication provider aims to make its money back by charging access to its local networks, according to Reuters.

BT chief executive, Gavin Patterson, told Reuters: “We already expect 95% of homes and businesses to have access to superfast broadband speeds of 24 megabits per year or faster by the end of 2017.

“Our latest initiative aims to ensure that all UK premises can get faster broadband, even in the hardest to reach parts of the UK.”

British culture secretary Karen Bradley added in a statement: “The government will warmly welcome BT’s offer, and will now determine whether this or a regulatory approach will be the best option for homes and businesses to gain access.

“The driving force behind our decision making will be making sure we get the best deal for consumers.”

According to Tech Republic, better access could also encourage start-ups and new tech companies to open shops in areas outside of the city centres.

The UK government has invested in a £400 million fund to improve full-fibre broadband, aiming to speed up businesses and households to 1Gbps.

According to the BBC, its goal is to boost the amount of properties with access to full-fibre broadband over the next four years and to provide a “future proof” solution.

The ‘Digital Infrastructure Investment Fund’ will rise through private investors, and will be managed and invested by two fund managers—Amber Infrastructure, and M&G Investments, which is part of Prudential.

The Treasury said: “Traditionally in Britain, full fibre has been difficult to finance because the industry is relatively young and a lack of certainty around future demand makes investment hard to secure.”

“This has held back alternative providers from entering the market, and consumers have been left with limited choice, which, in turn, has restricted their ability to benefit from this latest technology,” it added.

The BBC also stated that instead of relying on copper cables that connect to roadside cabinets, the fibre-optic cables would run directly to properties.
