Red Hat today announced the launch of its first Red Hat Open Innovation Labs in the Asia-Pacific region in Singapore.

The world’s leading provider of open source solutions helps customers integrate people, methodology, and technology to catalyse innovation and solve business challenges in an accelerated fashion.

IT teams work with Red Hat consultants, engineers and subject matter experts to modernise existing applications or create new ones through DevOps and open-sources.

According to Markets Insider, core features of an Open Innovation Labs include:

  • Solve legacy problems or entirely new challenges: Customers can take advantage of mentoring and technology to help their organization design and develop solutions to modernize legacy applications or take on entirely new challenges developing applications, architectures, and features for mobile, cloud, microservices, and more.
  • Work on real business problems from day one: Using Red Hat’s push button infrastructure and automated development environments, customers can quickly start development, resulting in quicker time to value and measurable outcomes.
  • Learn to work the open source way: Customers can collaborate with Red Hat experts and with the open source community on upstream projects using an agile-based methodology, open source tools, and best practices for application development.
  • Innovate anywhere: With a more secure cloud environment, any authorised team members can work together from anywhere at any time. Development can happen at customer’s site, in an Open Innovation Labs facility, or virtually.

Dirk-Peter van Leeuwen, senior vice president and general manage at Red Hat Asia Pacific, said to Markets Insider: “Businesses across Asia Pacific are innovating, while many companies are using digital technologies to create greater value and a better customer experience.

“The vision for Red Hat Open Innovation Labs is to introduce Red Hat’s unique DNA and the open source way of working to our customers in a residency-style, virtual or pop-up setting.”

Teams can also learn how to adopt agile development methodologies, DevOps practices, and get immediate and direct experience with the open principles and open culture that underlie many open source communities.

By 2020, Chinese and Indian tech giants will take over 50% of all global mobile phone subscribers, according to the GSM Association (GSMA), a trade body that represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide.

According to Computer Weekly, there will be roughly 753 million new mobile phone subscribers worldwide.

GSMA expect that by the end of the decade, China will account for 21% (155 million) of those subscribers, and India will account for 27% (206 million).

“Led by India and China, Asia’s mobile industry will be the main engine of global subscriber growth for the remainder of the decade, connecting almost half a billion new customers across the region by 2020,” said Mats Granryd, Director General of the GSMA.

“We are also seeing a dramatic shift to mobile broadband networks, particularly 4G, which is providing a platform for a rich range of innovative new services across both developed and emerging markets in the region. Meanwhile, advanced operators in Asia are set to become among the first in the world to launch commercial 5G networks before the end of the decade,” he added.

GSMA also noted that there is going to be a 3.1 billion increase in mobile subscribers from Asia-Pacific (APAC), accounting for around 66% of global growth to 75% by 2020.
