Starbucks creates virtual coffee store with Chinese cloud giant

Starbucks has partnered with Chinese cloud giant Alibaba to help gain expertise in global delivery services.

The American coffee company will be opting out of using Azure systems so it can utilise Alibaba’s broader range of services.

Currently, Starbucks is working on Alibaba’s food delivery platform Ele.me before expanding its delivery services to 2,000 stores in 30 other Chinese cities before the end of 2018.

Starbucks virtual store will be integrated into Alibaba Group properties in order for Taobao, Tmall or Hema customers to have access to the coffee company’s virtual store, similar to its mobile app.

The coffee company also plans to build up to 600 “Starbucks Delivery Kitchens” in Hema’s supermarkets, that will service delivery orders in surrounding areas over the next seven years.
