Research reveals an increase in edge deployment of network resource by 2022

New research from IDC and Limelight Networks revealed the importance of moving content delivery to edge computing, which then could enable business leaders to leverage the agility of network resources.

Indeed, the research shows that by 2022, 60% of all network resources will be deployed at remote edge or service provider locations, and by 2023, over 50% of new enterprise IT infrastructure deployed will be at the edge instead of corporate data centers. Besides, 73% of industry professionals stated that they consider edge as a strategic investment while another 17% declared that it is required by business operations.

Hence, it was reported that a 40% increase in edge deployment of the network resource is predicted by 2022.

The report also highlights the trend for content processing to move to the edge, so it can offer high-quality video experiences with minimal buffering and cost reductions.

Finally, the study found out that 45% of respondents believe that edge will bring increased productivity or efficiency, 40% that it will bring increased security and compliance, 42% that it will bring faster decision making, and 40% that it will bring improved customer relations or customer experience.
