Pentagon to cancel cloud computing contract

It was recently reported that the Pentagon has canceled a multibillion-dollar cloud computing contract due to the shifting technology environment.

Indeed, the US Department of Defense stated that the contract didn’t meet its current needs. Both Amazon and Microsoft have now then the opportunity to bid for a new contract. After Microsoft won the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (Jedi) contract, Amazon made a claim that the choice was politically motivated.

The DoD also stated that the two companies were the top suppliers for it, although it would consider other firms.

The Jedi system was made to replace the DoD’s computer networks with one single cloud system, which would have hosted classified secrets and provided artificial intelligence-based analysis to the military.
