Following the ‘Amazon Key’ service, which allows delivery people to enter a person’s home to drop off packages, the electronic commerce company today revealed its new platform ‘Amazon Key In-Car’.
Amazon Key In-Car allows a delivery person to drop off a package to a person’s car, “safely and securely”.
Cloud connected vehicles
The service came to light following the success of its key service, but differently, only Amazon Prime Members from 37 select cities in the USA who own cloud-connected vehicles such as Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac and Volvo will be able to use this delivery option.
Prime members wanting to use this delivery option must download the Amazon Key iOS app to complete setup, to ensure the car and location is suitable for delivery.
Amazon wrote in a blog post: “Complete one-time setup in the Amazon Key App to receive in-car deliveries — no new hardware or devices required. Setup includes adding your vehicle and linking your Amazon account with your active connected car service account.

“On delivery day, the Amazon Key App lets you check if you have parked within range of the delivery location, and provides notifications with your expected 4-hour delivery time window.
“The app also notifies you when your delivery is on its way, and your package has been delivered. You can also track when your car was unlocked and relocked in the app’s activity feed, and rate your in-car delivery.”
The vehicle requested for delivery purposes must also be parked within two blocks of the selected address.
