IoT tech injected into NHS Foundation Trusts

Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust are using Zebra Technology Corporation’s MC18 computer to carry out mobile inventory and semi-automated management.

Zebra’s tech is being used as part of the NHS “Scan4Safety” programme, which consists of a mix of IoT barcode scanning technology to better track patients throughout their treatments.

The Android-based computer then feeds the information into Ingencia Solutions inventory management system to adjust and log the Trust’s stock levels in real time.

“Zebra Technologies makes businesses as smart and connected as the world we live in. Zebra tracking and visibility solutions transform the physical to digital, creating the data streams businesses need in order to simplify operations, know more about their business, and empower their mobile workforce,” wrote Igencia Solutions in its blog post.

The system has replaced manual recording and logging, resulting in a 90% reduction in the time clinicians spend ordering stock.

It has also led to storage space being reduced because of the system highly improving stock control and visibility.
