Healthcare needs stronger IT security, says US report

The US focused Health Care Industry Cybersecurity Task Force report reveals that all aspects of health IT security are in need of the government to shore up security.

The report states that without some form of government intervention, healthcare organisations probably cannot be fixed; government intervention is what got health organisations into this situation, pushing them to adopt connected technologies, without making security part of any progress.

Congress and the Department of Health and Human Services (HRR) include hardware and software out of healthcare organisations programmes, recommending that more people need to learn healthcare security skills and to know how to deal with cyberattacks on healthcare systems.

“The health care system cannot deliver effective and safe care without deeper digital connectivity. If the health care system is connected, but insecure, this connectivity could betray patient safety, subjecting them to unnecessary risk and forcing them to pay unaffordable personal costs. Our nation must find a way to prevent our patients from being forced to choose between connectivity and security,” noted the report.
