DDoS attacks with ransom demands are growing significantly

It was recently found out that distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks with threats of extortion are rising significantly.

Indeed, more and more cyber attackers are demanding ransom payments in exchange for denying an attack. DDoS attackers are a growing concern for organizations as they are preventing legitimate users from accessing the services and cutting off business for the affected domain.

Cybercriminals are also getting more demanding with the ransoms, with one in three organizations receiving a ransom letter about a DDoS attack in December 2021. The most targeted are usually online retailers, online local governments, cloud-based business applications, streaming services, and online games.

In order to avoid DDoS attacks, companies should use cloud-based hosting providers, deploy IP-stressed services to test bandwidth capabilities, as well as employ a DDoS mitigation service.
