On 27-29 September 2017, a group of researchers from CWI’s Formal Methods group won the Best Paper Award in the 6th European Conference on cloud computing.

Nikolaos Bezirgiannis (Leiden University and CWI), Frank de Boer (CWI and Leiden University) and Stijn de Gouw (Open University and CWI), were awarded for their work on “Human-in-the-Loop Simulation of Cloud Services”.

The winners carried out interactive simulation of DevOps engineers inside simulated cloud environments.

The main purpose was to train engineers and administrators inside a safe, artificial environment against real-world scenarios which were drawn from past production deployments.
