Computer hacker tried to contaminate the water of a Florida city

It was reported that a computer hacker had gained access to the water system of a city in Florida and tried to add in a dangerous amount of a chemical.

Indeed, the hacker remotely accessed the water treatment system and tried to increase the amount of sodium hydroxide in Oldsmar’s water software system. This could have led to major problems in the water and eventually, compromise the health of the population. However, a worker noticed it and returned the levels to normal.

An investigation is in the process but no arrests have been made yet and it is still unclear if the hack originated from within the US or from outside.

To be safe, remote access to the software system has been disabled for now.
