China’s personal bodyguard app

A new app that allows “not just the rich and famous” to hire a personal bodyguard is set to be launched in northeast China.

The app called Jinyiqei is set to launch this September in Qingdao, providing an “Uber-like” service, connecting companies and individuals citywide with more than 50,000 staff from 47 security companies.

The app is similar to taxi applications, with app users being able to see the availability of bodyguards across the city in real-time.

According to Qingdao News, it provides bodyguards for anyone who feels unsafe, particularly those concerned about transporting valuables.

One of the app’s developers, Li Shangshang, told the BBC: “The bodyguards are former military personnel, and have been required to present their ID cards and military discharge certificates of permits in order to qualify for the app.

“They have also been required to take manners and etiquette training classes, and must wear a uniform at work.”

The price range of a bodyguard is expected to be between 70 and 200 yuan an hour.
