Carbon emissions data to become a key factor in cloud decisions

It is likely that carbon emissions data will become a key factor when buying hyperscale cloud services in the coming years.

Indeed, a recent study by Gartner expects that carbon emissions will be a top-three criterion in cloud purchasing decisions by 2025. More than 90% of organisations have increased their investments in sustainability since the start of the pandemic while hyperscalers are investing in sustainable cloud operations and delivery in order to achieve net-zero emissions within the decade.

Moreover, it was predicted that the hyperscale cloud community will be rolling out tools to make it easier for organisations to know how to cut their carbon emissions by stepping up their use of cloud technologies.

Hence, cloud providers are all working to have more sustainability initiatives in places although their progress varies wildly.
