It was recently announced that the United States would be starting negotiations with Canada to allow police with court orders to have easier access to the personal data of criminals.

Indeed, the announcement was made by both countries with the goal to fight cybercrime and ransomware as well as shoring up critical infrastructure. By doing so, police forces will be able to access the personal data of subscribers held by Google, Facebook, and other internet service providers involving alleged criminal offenses.

The agreement is similar to the one signed with the United Kingdom and Australia known as the U.S. CLOUD Act although it could be considered a violation of privacy.
