AWS cloud outage affects 240 online services

Amazon Web Services (AWS) suffered a major cloud outage that affected more than 240 online services last week.

According to SiliconANGLE, Amazon spent a lot of time fixing the outage, and the company’s announcement that Direct Connect was “operating normally” came eight hours after the issue was detected.

An Amazon spokesperson said: “There was a loss of power to one of AWS’s redundant internet connection points in Virginia that created connectivity issues for a small number of AWS customers who are using Direct Connect services in AWS US East.

“AWS resolved the issue and is working with its partner to prevent recurrence.”

Despite this, Amazon’s shares steadily rose throughout the day.
