Aqua Security announce native runtime protection for pivotal cloud foundry

Container based and cloud native application company, Aqua Security, last week announced the release of its runtime protection for Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF).

The new platform allows users to “deploy an end-to-end solution for scanning, application assurance and runtime protection for their application workloads,” according to a press release.

Customer accessibility

PCF lets customers implement the same application platform on major vendor’s cloud, on premises or in a hybrid model as well as incorporating a wide array of deployed distribution of Cloud Foundry Application Runtime (CFAR).

“No matter where they began their journey with Pivotal, enterprises routinely begin pushing code into production faster and more frequently with our platform. Therefore, application security checks must be accessible within the deployment pipeline in order to scale safety and compliance,” said Angus MacDonald, GM Technology Ecosystem at Pivotal. “Solutions such as Aqua provide the automation and controls necessary. Together, we hope to make the task of implementing end-to-end security simpler for our customers.”

Two types of protection

Aqua Security will be providing PCF on both standard and advanced protection.

The standard level lets customers provision policies to block unauthorized applications during the staging phase and apply host assurance policies for application or container artifact.  It also scans user’s applications for vulnerabilities during the Continuous Integration process and checks and monitors application or container artifacts for vulnerabilities, malware, and user activity.

Whilst the advanced protection includes everything in the standard tier but also allows for more developed applications. Such as detecting and blocking unapproved changes to running application workloads and leveraging granular audit trails of access activity.

It also scans events and coverage, application activity and system events along with monitoring and controlling application activity based on customized policies. Furthermore, customers can view application network connections and apply firewall rules that whitelist authorized connections.

Delivering a complete solution

Upesh Patel, VP of Business Development for Aqua says, “Since introducing scanning for Pivotal Cloud Foundry last year, we have seen tremendous interest in the PCF platform at some of our largest customers” He continues, “As they progressed in their application rollouts, they are now looking to protect their production-grade applications as well, and we are pleased to deliver the complete Aqua solution for Pivotal Cloud Foundry today.”
