Amazon Web Services (AWS) has joined the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) as a top-level platinum member, and is rumoured to soon launch its own Kubernetes-based container management service.

According to Tech Crunch, Amazon hosts an array of Kubernetes deployments, so therefore “shouldn’t come as a surprise” that Amazon has joined CNCF.

Amazon has also been contributing to the group’s container runtime, containerd.

Adrian Cockcroft, the vice president of Cloud Architecture Strategy at AWS, said: “AWS plans to take an active role in the cloud native community, contributing to Kubernetes and other cloud native technologies such as containerd, CNI, and linkerd.”

All major public cloud providers, such as Microsoft, Google and IBM, also aim to bring modern cloud management techniques to the masses, as they have joined the Linux Foundation-based group.
